Presentation for a Short Story

“MOTHER SAUVAGE”

Written By: Guy de Maupassant

 Introduction:

The short story I am presenting is one of the Guy de

Maupassant’s 300 stories. The name of the short story is
“MOTHER SAUVAGE”.

MOTHER SAUVAGE by Guy de Maupassant is a story about

despair, hardship, and vengeance, among other things. To
begin, we can speculate that Maupassant was seeking
vengeance. MOTHER SAUVAGE, on the other hand, was
responsible for the deaths of four Prussian soldiers as a result of
her son Victor's death. Furthermore, that after dying of
MOTHER SAUVAGE’S husband, her son would be the only one
she had. However, Maupassant suggests that innocent people
die in war. MOTHER SAUVAGE, on the other hand, has done
nothing to deserve Victor's death, and she may be one of several
mothers who have lost sons in what some may regard as a
pointless battle. “MOTHER SAUVAGE”
By: Guy de Maupassant
Characters:

 Victoire Simon la SAUVAGE (Mother)

 Victor la SAUVAGE (Son)

 The Four Prussians (Germans)

 Serval (Friend)
 Story Line:

MOTHER SAUVAGE is a very realistic work of art. It reveals the

underlying cruelty that exists in the heart of man. If the author intended
to teach one lesson, it would be that this devilish feeling can appear
whenever life calls. The strong and good Mother Savage of the beginning
of the story then becomes embodiment of malevolence when her raison
resist disappears, if the last thread of life she clung to is "cut in two" by a
cannon ball.
 Inference:

The passage is about a mother's love for her son. When her son, who was
thirty-three years old at the time, was declared the son SAUVAGE, he
enlisted, leaving his mother alone in the house. Finally, my friend Serval
added. In retaliation, the Germans destroyed the chateau of the district
that belonged to me. I remembered the mother of those four fine
followers who were burned in that house, as well as the horrifying
heroism of the other mother who was shot against the wall.
 Conclusion:

The ending of the story is very intriguing because I can see how different
MOTHER SAUVAGE’S viewpoint is from Serval's. By picking up the
blackened stone, the narrator is evoking MOTHER SAUVAGE in a variety of
ways. Serval, on the other hand, does not require a reminder of MOTHER
SAUVAGE’S behaviour because her actions are still fresh in his mind. The
narrator, on the other hand, feels very sorry for MOTHER SAUVAGE and the
four soldiers, but Serval is still enraged by MOTHER SAUVAGE’S behaviour.
Although Narrator's and Serval's claims can be considered true and justified,
just as both sides in the Franco-Prussian war felt justified in their
decisions. Finally, it is important to note that innocent people were killed
on both sides of the conflict.
