• Mr. Antonio Curt Semler started a company
named as “SEMCO”.
• In Brazil, between 1950-1060
• A major of marine pump for shipping industry
• Ricardo Semler become the CEO of SEMCO in
1982
• He then dropped all the secretarial positions

 
Ricardo’s initial changes in the
organization:
• Removal of layer of executives

• Work procedures and other changes

• The Dilemma

• Autocratic leadership style


Botanique hotel:
Recardo and his wife decided to open a hotel with a vision
that it would be completely different from any other hotel
in the world.
Differing By-

Not having set departments or fixed positions


No check-in or check-out times
No charge for minibar, Laundry services or internet
Strict no tipping policy
Botanique hotel:
Within this company rules were set so that all decision
making was fully democratic
 Meaning that all representatives are elected by the
people on the hopes of providing everyone with
equal opportunities.
At Boutanique hotel everyone is involved in the hiring process and
no new employee can be hired without input from all of the staff
members.
SEMACO Changing Ideas:

• Give-up Control, allow employees to manage themselves


• Eliminated beginning and end to end shift surveillance of employees
• Dress code was changed so that employees could come to work
however they pleased and although this new dress code was
implemented.
• No more reserved parking.
• Expense report were removed.
• Plant and flowers were added in common areas.
Advantages of his style:

• Young innovative minds are used


• Introduced great chances in the working place.
• With a turn over of less that $ 4 million at his entry.
• Encourage employees to rate themselves
• Company's accounts published internally
• Employees had o specific dressing code
• No specific work place & work seating
Drawbacks of his style:
• Much employees freedom
• Employees may have lacked guidance
CONCLUSION:

After this comprehensive discussion about the development of strategic


and leadership styles, we can figure out that the preferred objective by
different methods, theories and styles. Semler himself introduced
himself as a rebel in industry by adopting perilous methods of
management. But after the prolonged analysis of this case study, We can
state that the style adopted by Mr. Ricardo Semler one of the best
creative styles of management. Thus it creates assurance among
employees and boosts them to work with more strength and passion
towards the achievement of target.
