Article 370 gave Jammu and Kashmir special autonomous status and its own constitution and flag. However, in August 2019 the government revoked Article 370, eliminating Jammu and Kashmir's special status and making it a union territory directly governed by Delhi. This change had significant economic impacts, with Jammu and Kashmir's core sectors facing steep declines and over 90,000 people losing their jobs due to resulting militant threats, curfews, and communication blackouts.
