“Definition and

Scope of
Social Studies”
-Social studies is the study of people in relation to each
other and to their world. Subject that draws upon history,
geography, ecology, economics, law, philosophy, political
science and other social science disciplines.
-Scope of Social Studies entails man, his
environment (physical environment and social
environment) as well as science and technology which
man uses to make his environment suitable or
conducive for him. It also entails the fact that Social
Studies is an integrated subject.

Geography
- is the study of places and the relationships between
people and their environments. Geography seeks to
understand where things are found, why they are there, and
how they develop and change over time.

CIVICS

-the study of the rights and


duties of citizenship.

Government
● government is the system of people, laws, and
officials that define and control the country that
you live in. There are many different kinds of
government, but they all do essentially the same
thing: "govern" or oversee the rules,
regulations, and interactions of the people who
live under them.

CULTURE
● the arts and other manifestations of human
intellectual achievement regarded collectively.
Example: Philippine Culture
SOCIETY
● the aggregate of people living together in a more or
less ordered community.

Economics
● Economics is a social science concerned with the
production, distribution, and consumption of goods
and services. It studies how individuals, businesses,
governments, and nations make choices about how to
allocate resources. The building blocks of economics
are the studies of labor and trade.
