POPULATION DISTRIBUTION BY
DEVELOPMENT REGIONS IN NEPAL

 Nepal is divided into five development regions : EDR, CDR, WDR, MWDR, FWDR.

 Area occupied by each development region is :-

 EDR = 19.3%, CDR = 18.6%, WDR = 20%, MWDR = 28.8% and FWDR = 13.3%.

 According to population census year 2011 A.D. population and population density
were as below :
 POPULATION : EDR = 21.93%, CDR = 36.45%, WDR = 18.60%, MWDR = 13.39% and FWDR = 9.63%
 POPULATION DENSITY (in per sq. km) :
 EDR = 204, CDR = 352, WDR = 168, MWDR = 84 and FWDR = 131
REASONS OF HIGHEST POPULATION AND
POPULATION DENSITY IN CDR

i. Presence of capital city Kathmandu

ii. Presence of more urban and Terai area
iii. Presence of different physical facilities like : education, transportation, communication, etc.
iv. More industrialisation
v. Presence of suitable climate
vi. Presence of fertile land
REASONS OF LOWEST POPULATION
DENSITY IN MWDR

i. MWDR occupies the highest area among development regions

ii. Presence of extreme climate
iii. Presence of difficult land topography
iv. Poor urbanisation and industrialisation
v. Lack of availability of physical facilities like : education, transportation, health services, etc.
vi. Poor utilisation of natural resources
vii. Being very far from border of India
POPULATION DENSITY

 Population density = total population / total area
 Population density of Nepal was 180 per sq. km in 11th census 2011 A.D.
 Population density is highest in CDR and lowest in MWDR.
POPULATION COMPOSITION

 It is the distribution of population by age, religion, caste, etc.

 CLASSIFICATION OF POPULATION COMPOSITION :

1) Population composition by age
2) Population composition by sex
3) Population composition by age and sex (POPN PYRAMID)
4) Population composition by religion
5) Population composition by occupation
6) Population composition by language
7) Population composition by caste
