Abstract
 World is totally dependent on fuels like gasoline, diesel for transportation
But these are non-renewable energy sources
 They take millions of years to regenerate therefore they are in limited
quantity and in the nearer future there are chances that their wells will dry
up. So there is a urgent need of alternative fuels to generate energy
 As we know, gasoline is one of the best and efficient fuel for vehicles when
it comes to economy and for carrying heavy loads
 But at the same time, It’s not environmental friendly as it produces CO2 and
other pollutants during combustion

Study and Analysis of Ethanol and Butanol Blends as Fuels in IC Engine Medi-Caps University, Indore
To overcome the above mentioned disadvantage of gasoline, we need
some environmental friendly alternative fuels that are as efficient and
economical as gasoline.
This is our basic idea behind this project and study.
Ethanol ad Butanol are more ecofriendly than gasoline
But at the same time, according to various studies and data available
,they are less efficient than gasoline
In this project, we are going to study and analyze various aspects
through which we will try to find out the ways of increasing efficiency
using butanol and ethanol as a fuel.

Introduction
 Ever increasing drift of energy consumption due to growth of population, transportation and
luxurious lifestyle has increased the consumption of gasoline and diesel.
 Many motivated researchers have carried out researches on biofuel as a sustainable
alternative fuel for SI and CI engines.
 Biofuels such as ethanol and butanol are produced from renewable feedstocks, are the most
appropriate alternative of petroleum fuels.
 However, direct using of these fuels in an IC engines causes some technical issues
especially in cold weather, due to low cetane number, lower flash point and poor solubility.
 For overcoming the above mentioned problem, they can be blended with gasoline and diesel
or biodiesel.
 The aim of our study is to discuss the effect of mixed blends of ethanol and butanol with
gasoline on engine performance and emission parameters of a IC engine.

Methodology
 We will be first consider SI engine and study about the effects of using
different gasoline and ethanol/butanol blends.

 We will then analyze their effects and compile all the results which can be
helpful in designing of engines which are compatible with the studied
blends.
