• Care provider "Clinician role”:

• The most familiar role of the community health


nurse is that of clinician or care provider;

Means that the nurse ensures that health services


are provided not just to individuals and families,
but also to groups and populations.
• Nursing care function:
• Based on the science and art of caring
• Uses knowledge and skill in the nursing process
• Establishes rapport with the client to ensure
good quality data and to facilitate or enhance
partnership in addressing identified health needs
and problems
• Home visit is a must activity for a PHN
Family assessment:

•An essential first function in public health


• The community health nurse must gather
and analyze information that will affect the
health of the people
Collaborating and coordinating
function:
• Establishes linkages and collaborative
relationships with other health professionals,
government agencies, the private sector, non-
government
•organizations, and people’s organizations to
address health problems
Health promotion and education function:
• Uses skills in advocacy for the creation of
supportive environment through
•policies and reengineering of the physical
environment for healthier actions
• Provides clients with information that allows
them to make healthier choices and
practices
• Training function:
• Initiates the formulation of staff development
and training programs for midwives and other
auxiliary workers
• Does training needs assessment, designs
training program and conducts them in
collaboration with other resource persons,
and evaluates training outcomes
• Research function:
• Disease surveillance is a research activity of a
nurse
• Surveillance is an integral part of many
programs
• Data collected can be used to improve
strategies and thus prevent these
• diseases from occurring
