Double Exposure Technique

On this PowerPoint I am exploring the technique of double exposure: its

camera process, Photoshop techniques, and a moodbord of examples.
Double exposure
What you need
• Head shot or head and shoulder shot
• As a back up take some from different profiles
• Take photos with a plain background
• Or use highlight background with a 2nd light
• Studio set up can be shot continuous light or flash

In a group we took a few photos of side profiles up close and some

further away to include shoulders. I then did some basic editing on
them before turning them into double exposures.
Lighting Diagram & camera Settings

• Camera settings
approx.
Lights either
• 1/200 shutter speed position

• 4 aperture (f/4)
• 100 for ISO
• Backlight will need to
be tested at different
settings depending on
lights you use.
Mind-Map. True Detective •One of my favorite examples of double exposure is on the intro to
the TV series True Detective which double exposes scenes from
opening sequence each episode with the main characters.
•Maybe I could try to create a similar style by exposing industrial
landscapes underneath a profile image to achieve a similar effect.
