DETECTION OF

HEPATITIS
VIRUSES
z

NORFATMAH SULOG
BSMT 3A
 Disease
z cause by HAV is detected using
serology tests specific for viral induced IgM
and IgG
 Clinical findings consistent with the disease,
the presence of heap A, a specific IgM is
diagnostic of current active disease.
z

 HBV virus requires detection of antigen and antibody

to multiple antigens to classify disease type.
 Hepa D co-infection with HDV relies on the detection
of anti-hdv antibodies
 Diagnostic test for hcv include rt pcr and antibody
detection. PCR is used to detect early acute hepatitis
C disease because antibody detection test may be
negative.
z

 Testing antibody for ELISA is used to

detect chronic hepatitis C disease
 HCV RNA are used to differentiate
patients who are likely to respond to
therapy from those who have lower
response rate.
z

 All patients with substained response to therapy

became negative for HCV RNA within 6 months.

 HCV genotyping also is used to identify genotypes

more or less likely to respond to therapy.

 Like the patient with hcv genotype 1 has significantly

lower response to rate therapy
