Review: Pondo ng Pinoy
Arch. Gaudencio Rosales, the founder of
the advocacy insists that Pondo ng Pinoy
is really about the love of God (Pag-ibig
ng Panginoon) and translating it into the
actions of daily life. (Putting a coin in a
bottle is a reminder and an expression
of God’s love for humanity and people’s
love for him.)
What is at the heart of the
Catechesis of PONDO ng PINOY?
LOVE OF GOD and CONCERN FOR THE POOR
and the LESS FORTUNATE.
PONDO ng PINOY says that this love can be
expressed daily in small but good things done
for the others, especially those in need.
Pondo ng Pinoy Motto:

"Anumang Magaling,
Kahit Maliit,
basta’t Malimit
ay Patungong Langit.”
Four Pilars of Pondo ng Pinoy
1. Small Acts. Greatness lies in the “little” gestures that the Gospel indicates as the
way of God’s Kingdom, especially when oriented to the “little ones”.

2. Regularity - Little gestures of kindness exercised with regularity form virtue and
the sustained rhythm in life builds character in persons.

3. Rooted in the Love of God and Neighbor. Love of God poured generously
into our hearts serves as the primary motive for action to love back and the
commitment to be men and women for others

4. Empowerment of the Community. “Givers” and “receivers” are both

transformed by their habit of love and goodness, and empowered as well to be
responsible agents of social transformation.

The Lord Comforts His People
Thus says the Lord: in the time of
favor I answer you, on the day of
salvation I helped you; I form you
and set you as a covenant for the
Word Of God people, to restore the land and
allot the devastated heritages, to
say to the prisoners: Come out! To
those in darkness: show your
selves! Along the roadways they
shall find pasture, on every barren
height shall their pasture be.
They shall not hunger or thirst;
nor shall scorching wind or sun
strike them; for he who pities
them leads them and guides
them besides springs of water. I
will turn all my mountains into
roadway, and make my highways
level. See, these shall come from
the north and the west, others
from the land of Syene. Sing out,
heavens, and rejoice earth, break
forth into song, you mountains,
for the Lord comforts His people
and show mercy to his afflicted. –
Isaiah 49: 8-13
The Church teaching taken from the
Catechism for Filipino Catholics
(CFC) tells the important role of
prophets in the life of Israel.

The Word of the Prophets

Prophets were called by God to speak
His word to the people, interpreting
their present situation in the sight of
God and telling them what He would do
to them. Most of all, the prophets called
the people back to the covenant. After
the first stage of God’s saving act of
liberating His people from slavery in
Egypt, a second stage concern their
deliverance proclaimed by the prophets,
both before and after the Exile, if only
they would turn back to the Lord. CFC

 Roles of a Prophet:

 To proclaim the word of God with

authority

 To accompany His words with signs

and wonders

 To suffer martyr’s death

Prophets are divided into:
1) The Former Prophets - Joshua, Judges,
Samuel, and Kings.
2) The Latter/ Major Prophets - Isaiah,
Jeremiah, Ezekiel and Daniel.
3) Twelve, or Minor Prophets - Hosea, Joel,
Amos, Obadiah, Jonah, Micah, Nahum,
Habakkuk, Zephaniah, Haggai, Zechariah,
and Malachi.

 The division is in accord with the length of

prophesy.
God calls all baptized to be
prophets in this modern
time. We are called to be
prophets. We are called to
proclaim God’s love that
gives hope to the most
trying situations. Most
importantly, we are to love
as Christ loves. It is only
GOD LOVES YOU when we accompany our
words with actions, we can
become effective prophets.
Featured Saint: St. John Bosco
God calls all the baptized to be His messenger. Can anyone
be too young to answer God’s call? Not in the case of St.
John Bosco. From his childhood, St. John Bosco had the
great desire to become priest and to help young boys who
are like him. John grew up in a Catholic family. His father
died early and his mother singlehandedly raised her four
children and taught them the importance of faith in God.
Just like ordinary children, John was attracted to jugglers
and magicians. He would go to carnivals and fairs to watch
them and learn their tricks. When he had mastered some of
their tricks, he would perform on streets. He would ask the
people for prayers instead of payment for his performance.
Eventually, John entered the seminary. He excelled in his
studies and served as a model to other seminarians on how
to live a holy and happy life. John began his ministry to the
young by first forming catechism classes that met after
Sunday Mass.
To attract young boys to his class he performed magic
tricks. John’s catechism school grew and became a formal
school where boys receive an education, learn a trade, and
love Jesus. John gathered 17 men and formed a group
called Society of St. Francis de Sales. The group is known
as Salesians. They aim to provide the young with their
needs especially in the field of education and catechism.
St. John Bosco died in 1888. He is the patron of editors.

Prophets are to give hope to people through

delivering good news. We are called to be prophets
of our time. We are expected to bring encouraging
words to others especially to the young and our age.
