Understanding DLT Changes

What is DLT?
• The TRAI and the DOT have passed guidelines for all Telcom operators(Airtel, Vodafone-Idea, Jio,
BSNL, etc) to have a centralized way of sending B2B SMS in India through a Potal
• All the telecom operators have different DLT Portals but they are linked.
• All companies must register in atleast one DLT Portal to be able to send SMS to Indian SMS users.
• In this Portal(DLT portal), all companies who want to send SMSes in India are supposed to register
themselves and obtain a Entity ID
DLT Roll out in phases
• Entity Registration(May 2020)
• Sender ID registration(July 2020)
• DLT Scrubbing charges of Rs 0.025/ SMS unit(Sept 2020)
• Template Registration(Oct 2020)
• User’s Subscription(To be decided by authorities)
Sender ID: How to choose, Register and Use
• Each Industry type is required to choose Promotional Sender ID starting from designated Digit.
• You can choose any 6 Alphabets as a Transaction Sender ID, if available on the DLT Portal

How to Send SMS through Exotel
• Your submitted SMS should have your Registered Sender ID, SMS Template ID and Principal Enity
ID along with all the previous params.
• Sender ID and Entity IDs are mandatory as of today
