The Goose with the Golden Eggs

Once upon a time, a man and his wife had the good fortune to
have a goose which laid a golden egg everyday. Lucky though they
were, they soon began to think they were not getting rich fast
enough.
They imagined that if the bird must be able to lay golden eggs,
its insides must be made of gold. And they thought that if they could
get all that precious metal at once, they would get mighty rich very
soon. So the man and his wife decided to kill the bird.
However upon cutting the goose open, they were shocked to
find that its innards were like that of any other goose.
Moral of the story- Never be greedy.
The Hungry Mouse

A mouse was having a very bad time. She could find

no food at all.She looked here and there, but there was
no food, and she grew very thin. At last the mouse found
a basket, full of corn. There was a small hole in the
basket, and she crept in. she could just get through the
hole. Then she began to eat the corn. Being very hungry,
she ate a great deal, and went on eating and eating.
She had grown very fat before she felt that she had had
enough.
When the mouse tried to climb out of the basket, she
coud not. She was too fat to pass through the hole.
“How shall I climb out?” said the mouse.”Oh, How shall
I climb out?” Just then a rat came along, and he heard
the mouse.
“Mouse, “ said the rat,”if you want to climb out of the
basket, you must wait till you have grown as thin as
you were when you went in.”
Moral of the story- Too much of anything is not good
for us.
The Man and his Camel
Once there was a man who had a greedy camel. One cold night, the
man went to sleep in his tent. He heard a noise. He got up to see
what was making the noise. He saw his camel at the entrance to the
tent.
“Master,” said the camel,”It is very cold outside. May I put my head
inside your tent? You have a warm fire in there.”
The man answered,”You have a coat of fur to keep you warm. Oh
well, put your head inside.”
A little later, the camel said,”Master, the rest of me is cold. May I
bring my front legs inside?” The man wanted to sleep, so he agreed.
He moved over so there was room for the camel’s front legs. “

The camel was happy, but not for long.
Master, my back legs are cold. Please move into the corner, so
that I can get them in.” The man moved and the camel came in.
Now, there was no room in the tent at all.
Master, there isn’t room in the tent. I cannot turn,” said the greedy
camel. “There isn’t enough room for both of us. I am bigger than
you are. I think you should go outside.”
The man sat up and looked at his camel. “I knew this would
happen. Why did I let you in?” he said as the camel pushed him
into the cold.
Moral of the story- Someone who is greedy never has enough.

The Bundle of Sticks
Once upon a time, there lived a farmer in a village. He had
three strong and handsome sons. They always quarreled with
one another. He advised his sons many times to have peace
and unity among them. But his sons ignored his advice and
continued to fight with each other. This worried the farmer.
One day, he had a plan. He brought a bundle of sticks and
called his sons. He asked each of his sons, in turn, to try to
break the bundle of sticks. Each son tried with all his strength,
but none succeeded.
He then untied the bundle and gave the sticks to his sons to
break one by one which they did easily.
The farmer smiled and said “Dear sons, just like the sticks, if
you stay united no enemy will be able to break or harm you.
But if you are divided you will be easily broken or defeated by
any enemy”.

The three sons understood the power of unity and promised to

stay together through thick and thin.
Moral of the story- Unity is Strength.
Strong or Weak
There was a proud teak tree in the forest. He was tall and strong.
There was a small herb next to the tree.
The teak tree said, “I am very handsome and strong. No one can
defeat me.” Hearing this, the herb replied, “Dear friend, too much pride
is harmful. Even the strong will fall one day.”

The teak ignored the herb’s words. He continued to praise himself.

A strong wind blew. The teak stood firmly. Even when it rained, the
teak stood strong by spreading its leaves.
During these times, the herb bowed low. The teak made fun of the herb.
One day, there was a storm in the forest. The herb bowed low. As usual, the
teak did not want to bow.
The storm kept growing stronger. The teak could no longer bear it. He felt
his strength giving way.
He tried his best to stand upright, but in the end, he fell down. That was the
end of the proud tree.
When everything was calm again, the herb stood straight. He looked
around. He saw that the proud teak had fallen.
Moral of the story- We should not be arrogant.
The Ant and the Grasshoper
One summer’s day, in a field, a Grasshopper was hopping about,
chirping and singing to its heart's content. An Ant passed by,
bearing along with great effort an ear of corn he was taking to his
nest.
"Why don’t you come and chat with me," asked the Grasshopper,
"instead of toiling your life away?"
"I am helping to store up food for the winter," said the Ant, "and I
recommend you to do the same."
Why bother about winter?" said the Grasshopper. "We have got
plenty of food at present."
But the Ant went on its way and continued its toil.
When winter came, the Grasshopper found itself dying of hunger,
while it saw the ants distributing, every day, corn and grain from
the stores they had collected in summer.
Then the Grasshopper knew...
Moral of the story-: Work today and you can reap the benefits
tomorrow.
