you interact with people from different culture and
use different language.
Be Flexible : it is better to be flexible. You’d better
learn different ways in communicating in English,
including body language
Observe: the best way to learn this is by doing
observation. You can watch the talk show, movie
Drama even American Idol, or Britain Talented
show.
Do not judge too quickly: if you interact with
people from different country or use different
language from yours, keep open minded.
Never refuse it or hate, but be ready to be honest by
saying , “ Sorry I don’t know ..... May be.....
Do not make assumption , it is better to say: May
be.............

Specific skills

Remember !!! different situation will need different

responses. Thus, You need to practice all of them.
At least there are four different ways you can use to
respond to a misunderstanding.
Ignore: sometime you have to ignore a gesture or
vocabulary that you do not understand or make you
you feel bad, depend on the situation or condition at
that time. e.g a stranger on the street, say something,
or show the gesture.
Repeat: You may ask the speaker to say it again
because you don’t understand :
Sorry, what do you mean?? What was that
Would you please repeat it?. Pardon me? With the nice
intonation of cource.
Clarify : You ask for clarification by saying the
confusing word again, just to check the meaning
.e.g:Do you mean Disappointed?, or annnoying?
What do you really meant?
I don’t know what you mean by saying.................
Explanation: you try to explain to the speaker that
you don’t uderstand it. Then you try to explain that
in your culture you do this........ Or say this........
The meaning is................
Then you can ask what about in their culture ?? Are
they really different in meaning? Or just
mispronounciation, or spelling that is wrong.
