Also known as Magdapio Falls, Pagsanjan Falls stands approximately 300 ft. It is one of the major Laguna attractions that weekend travelers usually visit. To get to this three-tiered waterfall, you’ll either have to take the thrilling indigenous dugout canoe ride or enjoy a hike. This tourist spot in Pagsanjan Laguna is surely a perfect place to release your stress.
When you reach the falls, there are no food stalls so bring your lunch or buy food from the restaurant which you will pass by on the boat ride. There are also no toilets or showers in the falls, so just wash up when you get back to the jump-off point.

According to folklore, Pagsanjan waterfalls didn’t exist back then as there were only forests over the highlands, the twin rivers of Bumbungan and Balanac, and the land where the town of Pagsanjan was built. At the eastern bank of the Bumbungan River, two brothers named Balubad and Magdapio lived simply and peacefully until a calamity hit their land. There were no rainfalls for months so they experienced a terrible drought. Their land became so shriveled, the rivers and springs dried up, the flowers and crops withered and died, and the animals disappeared from sight.
The brothers suffered and prayed to the gods for rain but not a single drop came. The older Balubad, who was weaker of the two, died of thirst. Madapio buried him on the slope of the mountain and called it “Balubad.” Distressed over his brother’s death, Madapio trekked to the rocky cliffs of the upper region. There he cursed the gods for their bitter fate and hurled down his cane on the rocks. After he did that, a spring sprouted off the spot where he stuck his cane. The spring grew bigger and bigger, fresh water gushed down the canyon walls and became a waterfall. Magdapio fell on his knees and thanked the gods for the great blessing.

How to get there
There are two options to get there: Through the Pagsanjan Route where you can experience shooting the rapids in Pagsanjan Falls, and the Cavinti route which is a challenging way that involves hiking and rappelling.
Pagsanjan route
From Cubao or Buendia, ride a bus bound for Sta. Cruz, Laguna. Upon arrival in Sta. Cruz, you can either take a jeepney to Pagsanjan or a tricycle to take you directly to the Tourism Office. It’s important to drop by the tourism office to know all the Pagsanjan Falls information for your Pagsanjan Falls tour.
Cavinti route
From Cubao or Buendia, ride a bus bound for Sta. Cruz, Laguna. Upon arrival in Sta. Cruz, ride a jeepney going to Cavinti, then a tricycle to Pueblo El Salvador Nature Park and Picnic Grove in Brgy Tibatib where you’ll start your Pagsanjan Falls tour.
