OBJECTIVES:

 To discuss the main purpose of graphic organizers

 To make teaching and learning easier,
 and to improve a student’s understanding of a particular
concept. Because each organizer will be used for a specific
purpose, teachers should give detailed instruction to
students on how and why the organizer is being employed.
Graphic organizers

 Graphic organizers also are useful when brainstorming

ideas, especially as part of a group project or plan. They
can be used for a variety of educational purposes,
including sequencing events, analyzing cause and effect,
comparing and contrasting, and developing concepts in
detail.
A graphic organizer is a powerful, visual
learning tool that teachers like to use to help
students organize their ideas. They can also
be used to clarify or simplify complex
concepts, help with problem solving or
decision making, or be used to plan research
or brainstorm ideas.
Benefits of graphic organizers
Different types of graphic organizers can be used across the curriculum for teaching,
learning, and note-taking. They are easy to create and impactful in simplifying
information.
Help visualize or present information in a way that is easier to comprehend, by
breaking down larger or complex concepts or ideas into smaller and simpler parts.
Provide students the opportunity to actively contribute and participate in the learning
process through the creation of graphic organizers.
Help develop cognitive skills such as brainstorming, critical and creative thinking,
categorizing and prioritizing content, reflection, etc.
Help recall prior knowledge about a subject and quickly connect it to new information
Promotes self-learning. By using graphic organizers for note-taking, analyzing,
studying, etc. students can familiarize themselves with a lesson far more easily.
 When to Use Use Graphic Organizers at any point
in the lesson to structure information into
understandable chunks: When taking notes about
new information in a lesson to organize ideas.
After reading a book to organize the plot. When
comparing and contrasting two concepts.
