How Projects Really Work!!
Project Management:
• The process of planning, scheduling and
controlling all the activities within each stage
of the system development cycle.
• Aims to deliver a new system within an
acceptable time frame and budget using any
required knowledge, skills, tools or techniques
necessary for the particular project.
The Project Triangle:
A model of the constraints of
project management:

• The quality of work is


constrained by the project's
budget, deadlines and scope
(features).
• The project manager can trade
between constraints.
• Changes in one constraint
necessitate changes in others to
compensate or quality will
suffer.
Project Team:
Introduction
The development of a new system is the
responsibility of a systems analyst and/or
a group of people called a project team.

Project teams consist of:


• systems analyst
• programmers
• participants
Communication Skills:
• Active listening: restating, reflecting and
summarising the speakers major points.
• Conflict resolution: solves arguments & disputes.
• Negotiation skills: discussing a problem and
arriving at an agreement.
• Interview techniques: using lists of questions
prepared with a clear purpose.
• Team building: the process of getting a group of
people working together.
Team Building: Belbin Team Roles
Belbin Team Roles are used to identify people's
behavioural strengths and weaknesses in the
workplace. This can:

• Build productive working relationships


• Select and develop high-performing teams
• Raise self-awareness and personal effectiveness
• Build mutual trust and understanding
• Aid recruitment processes
