GEOGRAPHY
 Sudan is Africa’s largest country.
 Country’s located in northeastern Africa. The name Sudan
derives from the Arabic expression bilād al-sūdān (“land of
the blacks”),
 Sahara desert makes up the northern part of Sudan.
 A swamp called the Sudd makes up the southern region of
Sudan.
 Dry savannas make up the center part of Sudan.
 The Nile River runs through center of Sudan.
Facts about sudan
 with 97% of the country's population adhering to Islam.
 Protestants are about 5% of the population mainly in the south.
 Roman Catholics are 3.2%.
 The current population of Sudan is 43,048,834 as of September 23, 2019.
 Khartoum is the capital of sudan
 Sudan is the 15th largest country in the world, and the 3rd largest in
Africa.

Sudanese Hospitality


The Sudanese people are very generous, kind and
hospitable, they always welcome them in a friendly and
generous manner.

 Every Sudanese of the family believes that it is
his duty to maintain into his children the sense of
hospitality.

 Whenever a Sudanese guest is present, he will be


presented w/ a drink and refreshments.

 Not all, but In all areas the tradition of


welcoming and looking after their guest is the
same.

Food Customs at Ceremonials
At the Eid al- Adha, the feast of the great
sacrifice, it is customary to kill a sheep
and prepare a large family meal with chili.
And to give part of the meat to people
who cant afford it themselves.

Sudanese Henna
Henna is a beautiful Sudanese tradition. Henna is a paste
that is made from the leaves of henna bush, henna can last
for over 3 weeks, roses and flowers are mostly the trad.
Design and mostly on the hands and feet.

◦ Men also use henna. They put on their hands and feet for


their weddings.
◦ In the grooms “henna party right bfore the wedding, his
mother, sisters and aunts get together and put henna on his
feet and hands, while all his female relatives are singing and
dancing and his brothers and guy friends all get one hand
hennaed

◦ And henna has been used for over 5000 years in many
countries

Ramadan
 Ramadan is one of the religious customs in Sudan, it is the 9th
month of the Islamic calendar, w/c lasts 29 or 30 days.
 Refrain from eating, drinking and smoking from sunrise to
sunset, anything entering the mouth is forbidden.
 Vomiting or bringing up food will invalidate the fast.
 sexual thoughts and actions are not allowed
 They should also refrain from having a bad thoughts or showing
anger.

How do Muslims celebrate Eid al-Fitr?
 Eid al-Fitr features two to three days of celebrations that include special morning
prayers. People greet each other with “Eid Mubarak,” meaning “Blessed Eid” and with
formal embraces. Sweet dishes are prepared at home and gifts are given to children and
to those in need. In addition, Muslims are encouraged to forgive and seek forgiveness.
Practices vary from country to country.
 In countries like Egypt and Pakistan, Muslims decorate their homes with lanterns,
twinkling lights or flowers. Special food is prepared and friends and family are invited
over to celebrate
