“Education is our passport to

the future, for tomorrow

belongs to the people who
prepare for it today.”
― Malcolm X
Why are you
studying?
why did
you choose
this course?

motivation is an inner drive

to behave or act in a
certain manner.
Cognitive Evaluation Theory

This theory suggests that

there are actually two
motivation systems:
Intrinsic
Intrinsic motivation
motivation:
Extrinsic motivation
occurs when people are internally
motivated to do something because it
either brings them pleasure, they think
it is important, or they feel that what
they are learning is significant.
Extrinsic
motivation:
comes into play when a student
is compelled to do something or
act a certain way because of
factors external to him or her.
 Highly motivated student
Poorly motivated student
Highly motivated student:

Actively participates in every class

activity.
Volunteers to borrow and return materials
used.
Facial expression shows satisfaction over
an award.
Poorly motivated
student:
oPassively stuck to the seat during
discussions
oUninterested look and facial
expression
oEndlessly bother neighbor rather than
listen
oUnable to follow simple instructions
oLeaves learning task half-done
Your motivation and
enthusiasm for a subject
may have more impact on
your ability than IQ.
