WORLD OLDEST FOODS WE STILL EAT TODAY

Chocolate- unlike many ancient

foods, chocolate has its roots in the
americas. Archaelogists have found
eviedence of chocolate production
among the ancient olmec people in
Mexico. Scientists tested the
interior of pots for the chemical
theobromine, which is a strong
indicator of cacao.
Honey- is popular in
modern kitchens. The
same was true 5,500
years ago, according to
scientists. In a long
forgotten tomb in
georgia, researchers
found jars that once
held the worlds oldest
honey.
Beef jerky- Beef jerky
packets line the aisles of
supermarkets across the
world, but humans have
been enjoying the snacks for
thousands of years. In china,
scientists located a sealed
pot of beef jerky.Although
the remnants did not
resemble the dried piecesof
meat we eat today, testing
revveled that it was dried
beef.
Bone soup -bone broth is
popular among modern
health conscious diners.
Anicient Chinese people
also used bones to make
soup, according to
evidence from
archaeolgits. Anexcavated
bronze pot contained
liquid soup and traces of
bones that date back 2,400
years.
Popcorn- althoughthe first
evidence of corn comes from
9,000 year old Mexican sites,
ppcorn did not appear to be a
snack until thousands of years
later. In peru, archaeologists
found popped corn cobs,
incicating that ancient Peruvians
discovered the joys of popcorn.
The cobs, which 6,700 years old,
appeared to be an occasional
snack rather than an everday
indulgence.
