A Resume is a tool that summarizes your skills,
educational background, experiences, and other
qualifications. It is also called curriculum vitae, but this
is a more detailed. It can be considered as a sales tool in
the sense that it helps you market your skills to a
potential employer, in the same manner that a product is
advertised in a magazine.
The purpose of a resume is to introduce yourself to
employers, present your qualifications, and secure a slot
for an interview. The goal of writing a resume is to
showcase your experience, education, and skills in a
standardized format which is easy to read.
The key elements of a resume are as follows:

1. Personal Information: Name, Current/Permanent Address,


Telephone/Cellphone number and E-mail address.
2. Objective: In one short sentence, summarize your goal for your job
search. The goal statement should be related to the specific position
for which you are applying. It is also effective to highlight your skills in
the goal statement.
Examples:
a. Seeking a position as a social worker providing service to
the aged.
b. Seeking a position that utilizes my skills in counseling,
research, and proposal writing.
3. Education: Name of Primary, Secondary or Tertiary school where
you finished your studies. Indicate if you received any awards and
certificates.
4. Work and Related Experience: Summer jobs, Internships,
Volunteer work (include position title,
company/organization, and dates.
5. Seminars/Trainings
6. Achievements/Accomplishments
7. Skills/Interests
a. Soft skills: (e.g. being responsible, loyal, hardworking,
energetic, outgoing.)
b. Hard skills: (e.g. research and writing, Microsoft
Publisher 2000, Public speaking.)
8.References (2-3 people) Teacher/Professor, Work
supervisor (current or past). Include the name, relationship
to you, organization, contact phone numbers.
