:OUTLINE

• Erosion is the geological process in which earthen materials are

worn away and transported by natural forces such as wind or water.
• Mass wasting is a natural result of weathering on slopes. Simply
put, gravity pulls loose rock and soil downhill. Mass wasting is the
process of erosion whereby rock, soil, and other earth materials
move down a slope because of gravitational forces.
:OBJECTIVES

• To understand the correct description of such topics.

• To understand the difference between erotion and mass wasting.

• to know the importance of such topics the knowledge contained

therein.
: THE EROSION

Erosion is the geological process in

which earthen materials are worn
away and transported by natural
forces such as wind or water. A
similar process, weathering, breaks
down or dissolves rock, but does not
involve movement.
:MASS WASTING

Mass wasting, also known as slope

movement or mass movement, is
the geomorphic process by which
soil, sand, regolith, and rock move
downslope typically as a solid,
continuous or discontinuous mass,
largely under the force of gravity,
frequently with characteristics of
a flow as in debris flows and
mudflows.
