HOW TO APPLY
Simple Present Tense

• Describes a particular action that takes place regularly. Habits are


good examples in this case:
– James always gets up at 06.00 in the morning.
– John never skips breakfast.
• Express General truth, such as:
– The earth is round.
– Fire is hot.
– Ice is cold.
– The sun rises in the east.
• Present Opinions and Facts:
– AC Milan is a great football team.
– Japanese foods taste very delicious.
– I like cycling.
Simple Present Tense

Regular Activities:
 The air is always fresh in the morning.
 The sky is bright and blue.
 The birds sing on the trees.
 The flowers smell so nice.
 Some people take the dogs out.
 Students leave for schools.
 Workers drive their cars to their offices.
 The streets are busy about mid-morning.

 My campus is not far from my house.
 The classes always start at 08.00.

FINISHED ACTIONS:
• Mother has cooked the meal. Dinner is ready.
• Tom has painted the front door. It looks good
now.
• The car has stopped. It is out of gas.
• I have washed this jacket. It is clean and smells
nice now.
• We have found the key that you lost yesterday.

Simple Past Tense

Describes an action that is not associated to present time or future. It is


accepted as a past time history.
Examples:
I moved in Surabaya ten years ago.
My father got married twenty years ago.
Tom and I met three months ago.
Bellini came to campus last Wednesday.
I went to the cinema last night.
The weather was nice yesterday.
The streets were busy this morning.
We were not at home last night.
Mark did not go to school two days ago.
