What is a season?
O A season is one of 4 periods in a year.
O Each season lasts about 3 months.
O In each season, there are changes in temperature,
weather and length of daylight.

Why do we have seasons?


• Seasons are caused by the earth’s position in relation
to the sun.
• The seasons change as the earth moves closer or
farther away from the sun.
What are the four seasons?
O Autumn
O Winter
O Spring
O Summer
Autumn

O Autumn is also called


Fall because the leaves
fall from the trees.
O In Autumn, the leaves
turn colors of red,
yellow, orange and
brown.
O The weather begins to
turn colder in Autumn.
Winter
O Winter is the coldest
time of the year.
O Snow falls in the winter.
O Ponds and lakes freeze
in the winter.
O Christmas is in the
winter.
Summer

O Summer is the warmest


time of the year.
O The water gets warm and
we can go swimming.
O There is no school in the
summer.
Spring

O In the Spring, we get lots


of rain.
O Flowers begin to grow
in the Spring.
O The leaves begin to grow
on trees.
O The weather starts to get
warmer.
