Word Order

Sentence Pattern
Simple Rule:

Subject (S) + Verb (V) + Object (O)


Examples:
1. (+) She likes cooking.
2. (-) She doesn’t like cooking.
3. (?) Does she like cooking?

Subject (S) + Verb (V) + Object (O) + Indirect Object
+ Direct Object + Adv. of Place + Adv. of Time

Examples:
1. (+) He will tell you the answer at office tomorrow.
2. (-) He will not tell you the answer at office
tomorrow.
3. (?) Will he tell you the answer at office tomorrow?
Indirect Object (IO) VS Direct Object (DO)

When we talk about someone receiving something, we


can express it using the typical word order:
Indirect Object (IO) + Direct Object (DO)

S + V + IO + DO S + V + DO + preposition + IO
