Is your topic idea researchable?
Something is researchable when...

• Solutions are available but not yet tested and now

known by the practitioner.
• No solutions are available to answer the gap, or the
problem assessed.
• Answers, solutions, or results are seemingly not
tested or are factually contradictory.
• A phenomenon exists which requires explanation.
• There are several possible and plausible
explanations for the existences of an undesirable
condition.
Criteria for
Selecting a Topic

External Criteria Internal Criteria

These criteria are not within These criteria are something
the researcher's control that the researcher must look
unto himself/herself.
External Criteria
● Novelty – the topic must not have been used by many researchers; the
newness of the topic and its variable must inspire other researchers for
further study.
● Availability of Subjects – participants should be within your reach, and
their participation must be easily gained.
● Administrative Support – refers to the aid or assistance that can be
solicited from the school or from the extended community.
● Availability and adequacy of facilities and equipment – devices such as
computers, telephones, WiFi, and other gadgets or accesses used in
undertaking the study must be considered.
● Ethical Considerations – ensures that all activities are acceptable and
are done in accordance with what is legal and morally right.
Internal Criteria

● Experience, training, and professional qualifications – constitutes that researcher’s

knowledge, skills, expertise, and experience in order for him/her to cope with the demand of
the research study.
● Motivation, interest, intellectual curiosity, and perceptiveness of the researcher – these
bring anticipated satisfaction or enjoyment to complete the research tasks.
● Time Factor – considers that the study must be pursued within a given time frame.
● Costs and Returns – the amount of funding depends on the sample size and place where
the research is to be conducted.
● Hazards, penalties, and handicaps – are determined by the researcher’s physical and
intellectual capacity, and moral judgment.
After all of this is said, I just want to say:
"Choose what interests you the most."
