Indirect Determination of
Discharge
These methods make use of the relationship between the
flow discharge and the water surface slope and depth at
specified locations. Two important indirect methods are the
slope-area method and use of flow measuring structures.
Estimation of Discharge by
Slope-Area Method
Slope-area method is an approximate and
indirect method of discharge estimation
which is used when measurement by more
accurate methods, such as the velocity-area
method, is not possible.
FLOW MEASURING STRUCTURE
Structures like notches, weir, flumes and sluice gates for flow measurements in hydraulic laboratories
are all known.
