CHAPTER 1

Communication in
the Now – where you
are PC Students
9 WORST BODY LANGUAGE
MISTAKES
THAT PROFESSIONALS
COMMIT
EXCESSIVE NODDING
This undermines how focused we
are by nodding like a bobble.
FIDGETING
This is so called “nervous energy”.
HANDS BEHIND THE
BACK
This communicates inapproachability
and closed-mindedness.
MISMATCHED
EXPRESSIONS
This is not going to translate your
words well; when you are expressing
passion with face in deadpan.
SHIFTY EYES
This may suggest that you are lying
or you are uncertain.
STARING
Too much of this can be interpreted
as aggressive or worse, creepy.
CHOPPING AND
POINTING
This can mean you are cutting or
chopping connections.
BREAKING EYE
CONTACT
This expresses discomfort.
BAD POSTURE
Leaning back can be translated as
laziness; leaning forward may express
aggressiveness.
Your past experiences can get the
better of you.
Lauren@Bubble.jobs have to
say about how to make the
most of your past
experiences for an
interview.
KEEP IT RELEVANT

If you are in an interview for a job

that requires face-to-face team
leadership, do not talk about an
experience working alone, online, in
your room, dealing with co-workers
in virtual reality.
MIX IT UP A LITTLE BIT

On one hand, in an interview, you

should talk about how skillful you
are on specific tasks like creating
presentation or designing websites
which are required in the job you
are seeking.
DOWNPLAY NEGATIVES, PLAY UP
POSITIVES

Make sure to create an impression

to your interviewer that the short
time you spent in your previous job
has been all worth it, that while in
that job you realized all too well that
your strengths as an employee were
not fully maximized.
ALIGN YOUR ANSWER TO THE
COMPANY’S SPIRIT

Do your assignment. Come to the

interview with the knowledge of the
company’s mission and vision for
itself. “Be in the know” about
company’s organizational culture.
Sometimes we categorize people.
When we categorize people, we
eliminate their individuality.
Being in different environments
can stretch us far back, or too
forward.
