3R: THE PROPER WASTE

DISPOSAL MANAGEMENT
INTRODUCTION

Waste Management, simply and obviously put, refers to the actions and activities needed to manage waste from its
start to its last disposal. Waste management is essential in today’s society. Due to an increase in population, the
generation of waste is getting doubled day by day. Moreover, the increase in waste is affecting the lives of many
people.

Waste management is the managing of waste by disposal and recycling of it. Moreover, waste management needs
proper techniques keeping in mind the environmental situations. For instance, people living in slums are very close to
the waste disposal area. Therefore they are prone to various diseases. Hence, putting their lives in danger. In order to
maintain a healthy life, proper hygiene and sanitation are necessary. Consequently, it is only possible with proper
waste management.

Waste management begins from the point of collection. It is necessary to segregate wastes from the point of collection
so that the process becomes easier. Disposal of wastes is the final step in waste management whereby incineration,
burying, recycling and treatment of wastes is done. This is aimed at protection of the environment and to enhance the
safety of surrounding environment for humans and animals. Hazardous wastes are disposed far from reach of humans
and animals to prevent harm. Environmental pollution is a major public health issue that is prevented by proper waste
management because fewer wastes end up in the environment. Recycling as a waste management process enables
saving of resources and prevention of accumulation of wastes.
PURPOSE

Having a proper waste management can result in the availability of valuable materials to reuse. This can save
money while potentially creating new jobs and business opportunities. Reducing, reusing and recycling your
waste is important for the environment, but it can also be profitable. It decreases the amount of waste for
disposal, saves space in landfills, and conserves natural resources. The more waste that a business produces,
the more likely it is that the waste ends up at a landfill. By reducing, reusing, and recycling your business's
waste, you can help to conserve natural resources, protect the environment, and become an overall more eco-
friendly and environmentally conscious company. So waste management eliminates all these problems in an
efficient way. Reduces pollution, waste is the major cause of environmental degradation. For instance, the
waste from industries and households pollute our rivers. Therefore waste management is essential.

DESCRIPTION

These are some ways to reduce waste in your houses:

• Avoid using plastics
The only option is to junk plastic in favor of other materials. Paper cups for example, can be used
instead of plastic . Sip your drinks rather than using plastic straws. It takes as much energy to create nine
plastic bags as it does to drive one kilometer in a car. Plastic bags, on the other hand, are bad for the
environment. Instead of a plastic bag, use a mesh bag with a drawstring or a cloth bag on your next
shopping trip. Denim bags are a fantastic method to recycle old or worn jeans.

• Segregate waste
Divide garbage into two groups: biodegradable and non-biodegradable.
Put wet wastes like leftover foods, vegetables, peels, and other wet wastes in an organic dustbin that can be
composted later. Waste segregation can reduce the garbage burden on already overburdened landfills, lowering
pollution levels.

• Adopt composting
Composting can reduce 30% on your household waste. Composting is also good for plant growth because it
provides plants with many vital nutrients and may be utilized as fertilizer. If a family of four uses segregation and
composting, they can easily reduce their trash from 1000 kg to less than 100 kg per year.

• Go paperless
Papers make up about a 35% of all landfill waste. Everything that goes into the garbage bin, from paper cups
to napkins, ends up in landfills. Start cleaning around the house with old garments, such as rags, instead of paper
towels to reduce paper waste. Replace paper napkins in your kitchen with hand towels. In house parties, avoid
using paper plates.
SUPPORT

As anchored in Republic Act 9003, this is an act providing for an ecological solid waste management
program. We as a young people should be educated on disposing wastes properly to influence other
people. To be able to make things work, and to implement the practices mentioned earlier become more
successful, we needed a support, not financially but morally, from one of the department in the country –
Department of Environment and Natural Resources. This agency is responsible in taking care of our
planet in any aspect, and they also conduct clean up drives. If possible projects may be proposed in the
future, the profit we gain from different strategies we do with wastes, and it personally can support this
possible project financially.
