ICT POLICY OBJECTIVES IN
EDUCATION
 To foster the use of ICT in education to develop human
capacity, enhance competitiveness, modernize the teaching
and learning environment, facilitate equality of access and
to develop individuals who are capable of functioning
effectively in a technologically driven society.
DEFINITIONS.
 If you want to be a teacher or just a student, we need to be equipped with ICT knowledge and its
policies.
* Define ICT
 - It stands for Information and Communications Technology.
 It is needed for information processing.
 This is the use of electronic computers, communication devices, and software application to covert,
store, protect, process, transmit and receive information.
 Information is found through reading, investigating, researching, through internet, video
conferences, e-mail and by using telephone, radio, tv, satellites, gadgets.
* Define POLICY
- A short to the point that provides the governments’ vision and mission in a particular area.
ICT POLICY

A National ICT Policy is a policy put into place by governments’ and


stakeholders’ who are committed to the process of bringing digital
technology to all individuals and communities so that they can have
access to information

These policies compulsorily followed by stakeholders, teachers and


anyone who have the obligation to give information for other people that
cannot have access to information.

ICT Policies Importance for Teaching and Learning.
The leaders of the world’s eight major (France, Germany, Italy, the United Kingdom, Japan, the
United States, Canada, and Russia) industrialized democracies (G8 Heads of State, 2000) have noted
that ICT has become an engine of growth for the global economy and has the potential to contribute
significantly to sustainable economic development, to enhance public welfare, to strengthen
democracy, to increase transparency in governance, to nourish cultural diversity, and to foster
international peace and stability.
 They have also emphasized the need to develop human resources capable of responding to the
demands of information age and to nurture ICT literacy and skills through education, training and life-
long learning.
 The OECD (2001, 2006) also emphasizes the economic importance and impact of ICT in developed
countries and points out the need for these countries to develop a workforce with the skills to use ICT
to increase productivity, as well as the need for young people to develop ICT skills in preparation for
adult life.

National ICT Policies in Education.
1. Create an ICT environment in
education system that encourages
creativity, innovation, critical
thinking, communication, research
and decision making.

In school and university libraries, students should have access to


learning resources and electronic information for research
purposes such as learning resource center where computers with
internet connection is provided to innovate uses of ICT.

2. Establish the appropriate
organizational structure and provide a
professional development plan,
implement, manage, and sustain the
integration of ICT into the educational
system.

Let teachers and officials organize a system or a curriculum that outlines


how certain activities for learners are directed in order to achieve a goal

3. Establish a regulatory framework
for ICT to harmonize activities and
approaches and develop standards
in the use of ICT in education.

Activities such as thesis, research and innovation will provide


students the ideas on how to improve ICT in education and to
increase awareness and sensitization about ICT.

4. Provide all students with the requisite
ICT skills for employment and the
education grounding for pursuing
continuous learning and specialized
training.

As a teacher of 21st century learners, we prepare students for the real


world with providing Digital Literacy, Educational Technology,
Technology in Education and training them by demonstrating them the
basic ICT skills that can be applied in life in general such as using
internet for research, learning Information Technology, email, applying
the netiquettes.

5. Develop a teaching workforce in all
which practitioners possess the
requisite skills and competencies
required to use ICT as a tool in
enhancing the teaching and learning
process.

As teachers, we should not only possess the knowledge of ICT, but


we must be also well-oriented of the skills and competencies so that
we may also upskill and develop them into useful ICT literate for
the development of the society.

6. Create smart partnerships that
provide for global collaboration,
increased electronic networking and
enhanced stakeholder participation.

Teach the students about the concepts of globalization with the use
of technology for learning that bring students together to promote
learning in a smart way and promote participation of local ICT
organisations in international ICT events and opportunities.

7. Use ICT to enhance management
and administrative functions.

For effective management and administrative functions, ICT


supports them by aiding to provide good and effective
services, maintenance, programs and secures them.

8. Foster the concept of life-long
learning, develop and sustain strategies
to encourage adults toward self-
improvement through ICT skills and
training.

Having ICT skills and training helps provide solutions to problem,


widens your knowledge and improve critical thinking skills that will
assist for self-learning and self-directing one’s learning development
needs that are required in the learning society.

9. Develop the teaching of ICT at
all levels of the formal education
system.

Introducing ICT from early childhood education to


higher education advances knowledge and skills of the
learners and helps them to understand instructions and
developing their own learning methods.

10. Encourage the use of ICT
