Research Proposal

Research Proposal is a document that is


typically written by researcher which describes
the idea for an investigation on a certain topic.
The Research Proposal outlines the process for
beginning to end and may be used to request
financing for project certification, certain parts
of the research of the of the experiment, or as
a required task before beginning a dissertation
or thesis.
A business research proposal is a written
document that describes the business problem,
the purpose of the study and detailed outline of
the research methodology.
Purpose of Research Proposal
 Provide a blue print in term of procedure
to be followed in the research process.
 Provision for basis for providing guidance
to research authorities, supervisors or
institutions.
 Provisions for basis for evaluating the
adequacy and appropriateness of the
method and the design for the proposed
study.
 Provision for basis for soliciting funds from
supporting agencies and organizations etc.
Format of a Research Proposal
A proposal is divided into many sections
Preliminaries: This is the first section of
the proposal, it includes the following:
1.Title Page : It is often referred as cover
page. This section indicates the topic of the
research, name and institutional
information and the name of the
researcher.
2. Declaration Page: This includes the
declaration by researcher and supervisor.
Background:
 Research Concept: Gives general
historical development of the concept
under study,
 Research Problem Statement: Why this
problem warranting the research?
 Research Objective:
This states the purpose of the research.
States the mission of the research.
Specifies the specific research objectives
in numbered sequence.
Research Question: the research questions
break the research problem into parts
Scope of the Study:
Gives the dimensions of the study.
Specifies the specific knowledge area of
interest of researcher.
Justification of the study:
Give reasons as to why the study has been
undertaken.
Indicates to whom the study will be
relevant to
Research Methodology: It includes the
followings,
Research Design
Target population
The Sample and sampling procedure
Data Collection
Data collection techniques
References: References must be in
alphabetic order.
Time Schedule:
Specifies the time to be taken to complete
the major steps of research project .
The Budget: specifies the proposed budget
to carry on the research project.
