USING A DICTIONARY

Objectives:
• At the end of the lesson, students should
be able to use a dictionary effectively
What does it mean by the word ‘READ’?
• To read means to look at words and understand what they mean. A word is
of no use to you if you do not know what it means.
• When you read and come cross unfamiliar word, a dictionary can help you.

• Basically, dictionary tells you about:


1. What the word mean
2. How to spell the word
3. How to pronounce the word
4. What the part of speech the word is

• As a university student, it is highly recommended for you to invest on a


good English-English dictionary.
• You are also allowed to use this dictionary (English-English) in Reading Tests
during your diploma semesters in UiTM.
