PARTICIPLE ADJECTIVES
and
DEPENDENT PREPOSITIONS
Participle adjective + preposition can express our feelings about
actions or events. 

E.g:
bored interested frightened impressed

• Participle adjectives are usually followed by specific
prepositions.

E.g:
bored with interested in
frightened of impressed by

• Some participle adjectives can pair with more than one
preposition with a change in meaning.
E.g:
She is concerned about how little food I eat. (=worried about
something)

He was genuinely concerned for the children. (=caring about


someone and whether they are happy and healthy)

• Participle adjectives + prepositions can be followed by:
 a noun phrase
My grandmother seemed to be highly amused by my
remarks.
 an –ing clause
Sheila’s interested in starting her own business.
 a wh- clause 
I felt embarrassed about how untidy the house was.
