How does the woodwind family produce
sound?
To produce sounds, air is blown across the reed attached to the mouthpiece of the
instrument, vibrating the air down the tube of the instrument. Covering or
opening holes in the instrument tube, changing the reed, and changing the size of
the instrument tube all produce different notes.
Meaning: Woodwind instruments are a family of musical instruments within the
more general category of wind instruments.
