Coverage of GSIS

 All government personnel who are receiving fixed


monthly compensation and have not reached the
age of 65, whether elective or appointive
 Elective officials who will be more than 65 at the
Compulsory Coverage end of his terms, including re election
 Officials appointed by the President who remain
in office after reaching 65
 Contractual or casual employees who receive
fixed monthly compensation and render the
required number of working hours for the month
Coverage of GSIS

 Uniformed Personnel of the AFP, PNP, BFP, and


BJMP
 Baranggay and Sanggunian officials who not
receiving fixed monthly compensation
NOT COMPULSORY  Contractual employees who are not receiving
fixed monthly compensation
 Employees who do no have monthly regular hours
of work and are not receiving fixed monthly
compensation
CLASSES OF MEMBERSHIP

 Regular or Special
 Active or inactive
 Regular – those employed by the RP, national or
local, legislative bodies, GOCC with original  Active – whether regular or special, who is still in
charters, GFIs, except uniformed personnel of the government service
AFP etc, who are rquired to remit monthly  Inactive – separated from the service either by

GSIS members receive higher benefits

 “Government retirees have higher pension because their contribution rate is at 21 percent of their actual
salary as compared with those working in the private sector, whose SSS contributions are only 11 percent of
their salary capped at P16,000,”
 For example, a private sector employee who earns P25,000 only contributes P1,760 based on a P16,000
maximum MSC to the SSS while a government employee who earns the same amount contributes P5,250 to
the GSIS. This results in a significant difference between the amount of pension being received by a private
worker and a government employee
