VLSI PROJECT

TOPIC- BIOMETRIC LOCK USING ARDUINO

NANO

Presented by Presented to,

INTRODUCTION:
• IN THIS PROJECT, WE ARE GOING TO BUILD A BIOMETRIC LOCK
USING ARDUINO NANO.
• APART FROM HARDWARE, A MOBILE APPLICATION IS ALSO USED TO
SCAN AND VERIFY THE FINGERPRINT AND SEND THE
CONFIRMATION ID TO ARDUINO THROUGH BLUETOOTH.
• HERE WE WILL USE SMART PHONE FINGER PRINT SENSOR TO
LOCK AND UNLOCK THE DOOR LOCK.
COMPONENTS :
• Arduino Nano
• Bluetooth Module (HC05)
• Relay Module
• Solenoid Lock/Conventional Lock
• Buzzer
• LED
• Jumper Wires
NEED OF SMART DOOR LOCK

Somebody can break into your home or you can be locked yourself out while
losing the keys.
Your relatives has to wait outside for long since without the keys.
These are some scenarios every home owners goes through.
With the introduction of smart door locking system, all these concerns will be
history.
ABOUT ARDUINO NANO :
ABOUT SOLENOID LOCK
• In a conventional door lock, there is a key to pull or push the
latch, and we have to operate it manually, but in a solenoid lock,
the latch can be operated automatically by applying a voltage.
•  Solenoid lock has a low-voltage solenoid that pulls the latch
back into the door when an interrupt (Pushbutton, Relay, etc.) is
activated.
• The operating voltage for the solenoid lock is 12V. We can also
use 9V, but it results in slower operation.
CIRCUIT DIAGRAM
EXPLANATION :
• Here we are only connecting a solenoid lock, relay module, and a Bluetooth
module with Arduino Nano.
• The input pin of the relay is connected to the pin 9 of Arduino Nano while
VCC and Ground pins are connected to 5V and GND pin of Nano. 5V and
GND pins of the Bluetooth module are connected to 5V and GND of Nano
while Tx and Rx pins are connected to Rx and Tx of Nano respectively.
• The positive pin of the buzzer is connected to pin 7 of Arduino and the
negative pin is connected to GND of Arduino.
ANDROID APP FOR ARDUINO BASED
FINGERPRINT DOOR LOCK :

• This is how you use your smart phone’s fingerprint sensor to control a

door lock.
• This app is connected to the bluetooth module which is connected to the
Arduino which is further connected to Locomotive.
• Since it is a Bluetooth operated device , hence we have to be in close
proximity in order to open the door. Instead of Arduino other IOT
microcontroller can we used like Raspberrypie, which works on wifi.
ADVANTAGES

• Send e-keys via mobile app to your near and dear ones.
• It detects your presence.
• Ensures you a high security.
• Convenient for elderly and physically impaired peoples.
DISADVANTAGES

Apart from all the advantages discussed above the smart locks also have some
disadvantages.
1. Smartphone’s battery may be down.
2. Sudden blackout of the control unit or a fault of the recognition device.
3. Control unit doesn’t work properly and doesn’t allow you to safely close
the door.
CONCLUSION :

• For better security you may install a smart lock.

• Considering cons , Pros do have an upper hand.
• Smart lock makes your life easy and advanced.
• Since it is wifi operated, hence one can operate it from any part of the world.
• With a camera and some sensors it can also spot and detect the presence.
