LO 1: Able to understand the evolution of information system

- The 1960s and 1970s, computer hardware and software development


- The 1980s, stars to share the information electronically by equipment
(such as printers and hard disks)
- The mid of 1980s, telecommunications developments allowed users to
share data and peripherals on local networks
- The end of 1980s, the hardware needed to support the development of
ERP systems
- The late 1980s and early 1990s, development of ERP systems in
company
LO 2: Able to apply ERP Software Emerges : SAP and R/3

- Platneer, Hopp, and Wellenreuther established SAP on Apr 1, 1972.


They sign contracts with ICI to develop the follow-on materials and
logistics management systems.
- In 1978, SAP began developing a more integrated software version of tis
software products, called the R/2 system.
- In 1982, SAP released its R/2 mainframe ERP software package.
- in 1988, SAP began to develop its R/3 system.

- Consultans will recommend the modules that are the best suited to the
company’s operation

The benefit of ERP software:


- Allows easier global integration
- Integrates people and data while eliminating the need to update and
repair many separate computer systems
- Allows management to manage operation
