PROJECT REPORT ON
AUTOMOBILE INDUSTRY
INTRODUCTION
• The automobile industry, s inception began in the early 1890s.
• The automobile industry consists of a wide range of companies and organizations involved
in the designing and developing, of motor vehicles. It is considered as one of the world 's
most important economic sectors in terms of revenue.
• For many years, the United States of America were the leaders of the world when it came to
automobile production.
• In the year 1929, just before the Great Depression, the world had roughly 3 crore
automobiles in use, and the United States of America automobile industry produced most of
it.
INDUSTRY PROFILE
• One of the fastest growing industries in the world is automobile industry.
• This automobile industry even has its influence on the Indian market. Probably automobile
industries occupy a large market share in the worlds market as well as in the Indian market.
• In India nearly 18% of the total national income is being incurred from the automobile
industry.
• From this we can estimate how important the automobile industry is in the improvement of
GDP of a country.
• In India automobile industry has a growth rate average of 10-12%.
EVOLUTION OF USE OF
TECHNOLOGY IN THE INDUSTRY
• The automobile industry is an important driver of the economic growth in India and one of
the successful sectors in which the country has high participation in global value chains.
• India was the sixth largest producer of automobiles globally with an average annual
production of about 29 million vehicles in 2017–2018, of which about 4 million were
exported.
• India is the largest tractor manufacturer, second largest two-wheeler manufacturer, second
largest bus manufacturer, fifth largest heavy truck manufacturer, sixth largest car
manufacturer, and eighth largest commercial vehicle manufacturer.
UPCOMING TECHNOLOGICAL
ADVANCEMENT IN THE INDUSTRY
• Around 1832, Robert Anderson develops the first crude electric vehicle, but it isn't until the
1870s or later that electric cars become practical.
• As of August 2020, the fully electric Tesla Model 3 is the world's all-time best selling plug-
in electric passenger car, with around 645,000 units.
• The recent patent deployment strategies of established players demonstrate considerable
improvement in areas such as propulsion technology, telematics, vehicle safety, and security.
• Among Indian companies, TVS Group, Tata Motors, and M&M have been among the top
Indian applicants for patents.
• The majority of Indian patent applications filed by automobile companies fall under the
categories of mechanical engineering, in areas like arrangement of propulsion units,
transmissions systems, arrangements in connection with cooling.
• The current policy debate in India is around the issue of achieving greater competitiveness,
efficiency standards, and the need for introducing electric vehicles.
• An automated driving system (ADS) on the vehicle can do all the driving in all
circumstances. The human occupants are just passengers and need never be involved in
driving.
• With a view to promoting electric mobility in the country, this Mission Plan was designed
considering the fuel security and environmental pollution in the country.
• It aims for a cumulative fuel saving of about 9500 million liters equivalent resulting in
reduction of pollution and greenhouse gas emission of 2 million tonnes with targeted market
penetration of 6–7 million vehicles by 2020.
• The major reason for the push toward electric mobility has been to steer India away from its
overdependence on imported oil.
CONCLUSION
• Many automobile manufacturers have taken up advanced technologies right from car design
through to sales and marketing and also servicing.
• In the past, we used to have dealers and appointed retail outlets serving car owners from the
brick mortar shops. However, with technology we now have the online dealership and retail
outlets selling spare parts for the vehicles.
• Automobile manufacturing is much easier today as car makers use the robots in the
manufacturing of vehicles. This has helped to cut down the cost of production for
automobiles while at the same time helping to increase production volume.
• Buying a modern vehicle today comes with a better driving experience today. The
intelligence added to the vehicles is also important in ensuring security for the road users.
• The self-driven vehicles is now becoming a reality in various parts of the world. Though still
at the development stage, we are set to see these cars being used across the world.
• The introduction of different funding mechanisms and simple repayment plans also
contributed to the growth of the automotive industry.
