• Resources that occur in our nature is known as
the natural resources.
Example:
1. Sunlight
2. Minerals
• These cannot be produced by our mankind.

CLASSIFICATION OF NATURAL RESOURCES

Natural resources can be

classified into two categories:

Renewable Non-Renewable
resources resources
WHAT ARE RENEWABLE RESOURCES?
Resources that can be replenished naturally
in the course of time are called renewable
resources.
WHAT ARE NON-RENEWABLE RESOURCES?
Resources that exist in limited supply and
cannot be replaced if they are used up are
called as non-renewable resources.

 WHAT ARE MINERAL RESOURCES?

• A Mineral is a naturally occuring substance found in

the Earth’s crust . Minerals have distinct physical
properties such as color and hardness and chemical
properties such as solubility.

• A Homogenous , naturally occuring substance with

definable internal structure is called as Minerals.

 METALLIC MINERALS

Metallic minerals are those

minerals which can be
melted to obtain new
products.
Contains metals and
generally found in igneous
rock.
Example : silver , chromium ,
tin , nickel.
CLASSIFICATION METALLIC MINERALS
• Ferrous minerals
• Non-Ferrous minerals

Minerals that contains iron is known as ferrous minerals.

Example : chromite , iron ore , manganese

Minerals that don’t contains iron are known as non-ferrous

minerals.
Example : copper , brass
 NON-METALLIC MINERALS
• Non-Metallic minerals are those minerals
which do not contain metals is known as non-
metallic minerals.
• Example : diamond , mica , salt , potash.
 ENERGY MINERALS
• The energy minerals are minerals , metals ,
rocks and hydrocarbons that are extracted
from earth and use in wide range of industries
related to construction , manufacturing ,
agriculture and energy supply.
• Example : coal , oil , uranium
 FACTS ON MINERALS
• There are 3000 Minerals in the Earth.
• 90% of Earth Minerals are made of just 10 minerals.
• Common Minerals are silicates , aluminium , iron , sodium,
potassium , calcium , magnesium.
• They are found in pure states in ores which are rock containing
Minerals.
• Ores are classified into low and high grade ores.
• High grade ores contains high Mineral content and less of
impurity.
• Low grade ores contains low Mineral content and more of
impurity.
