What Are Minerals?
Mineral is a naturally occurring inorganic
solid with a definite chemical composition
and a crystalline structure. The earth is
composed of mineral elements, either
alone or in a myriad of combinations
called compounds. A mineral is composed
of a single element or compound.
Classification Of Minerals
Minerals

Metallic Non-Metallic Energy Minerals

1.Ferrous E.g: Mica Coal
2.Non-ferrous Limestone Salt Petroleum
3.Precious Granite Sandstone. Natural Gas
Metallic Minerals
• We Get metal from these minerals. Ores of iron,
cooper, gold, silver, lead, aluminum , tin etc. are
important examples of metallic minerals.
• Ferrous Mineral: The minerals that contain iron
content are called ferrous minerals ex: Iron ore,
Nickel etc.
• Non-Ferrous Mineral: Those minerals which
comprise of some other metal rather than iron is
known as a non-ferrous metallic mineral ex: Gold,
Copper etc.
Non-Metallic Minerals
• These are those minerals which do not contain
metals.
• Coal , petroleum , mica , manganese etc.are
some important non metallic minerals.
• Coal & Minerals oil are also called energy
minerals.
MICA & It’s Properties
• MICA is non metallic mineral. India is the
largest producer of MICA. It produces more
than 60% of world’s mica.

• It is made up of series of plates or leaves.

• It can be converted into thin sheets.
• It can be black, red , green , yellow or brown.
Energy Resources
• The resources which are used for
generating energy are known as energy
resources.
• Coal, petroleum, natural gas etc. some of
the important energy resources.
• Energy resources can be classified as
conventional and non-conventional.
Difference Of Conventional
And Non-Conventional.
