• Irish writer best known for his short stories about Ireland’s lower and
middle classes.
• He earned master's degrees from Harvard University and the
National University of Ireland.
• Midsummer Night Madness and Other Stories was his first
collection of short stories.
• His first novel, A Nest of Simple Folk, deal with the revolutionary
period in Ireland.
• Come Back to Erin, The Irish: A Character Study, and The Short
Story are among his works.
• One of his famous works is The Trout, a simple story about a child’s
discovery of love and kindness.
KATHERINE
MANSFIELD

• Kathleen Mansfield Murry was a New Zealand writer, essayist


and journalist.
• She wrote many fine short stories.
• Near the end of her short life, she said that she had not yet
written the things she would like to write.
• Her stories are noted for their psychological values
• Her characters are lifelike, placed in situations that make
reading her stories a really illuminating experience.
• Mansfield pictures the pride and pleasure of children in a new
toy.
• One of his known story is The Doll’s house.
williaM henry davies

• William Henry Davies was frequently naive, uncritical, and


trivial but sometimes moralistic in his verses.
• His dismissal from school led him to become a tramp, a
"career" he was forced to abandon when he lost a foot after
falling from a train. The incident made him turn to writing.
• The Soul's Destroyer and Other Poems (1905) won the
attention of the playwright George Bernard Shaw, who after
realizing the merits of the work, became responsible for
Davies's recognition.
• His works achieved great popularity. They speak of misery,
beggary love, the sea, and outdoor life.
• One of his works is The “ambition”.

• He was a native Worcestershire, England.


• He was educated at St. John’s College, Oxford.
• He became a noted classical scholar but is better known for
his poetry.
• “Reveille” is from A Shropshire Lad (1896), his best
known volume of poems.
• His famous works are “When I was One-and-Twenty” and
“Loveliest tree”.

• He is especially known for his melodious verses and for his
