Installing a Host Using a Tool

 The service IP address must be accessible to the local PC and the installation plane.
 For details about the DHCP service configuration, see the attachment FusionCompute 6.5.0 Installation
Guide (Using the FusionCompute Installer) in section "Installing the Management Software (Using the
FusionCompute Installer)" in FusionSphere Virtualization Suite 6.5.0 Product Documentation. If the host
fails to detect, check the configurations based on the help document.
Note: Other DHCP servers cannot run on the installation plane subnet.
 Servers support both the UEFI boot mode and BIOS boot mode.
 If memory overcommitment is required, it is recommended that auto be selected for Swap partition size.
Otherwise, retain the default value 30.
 Users can export and modify the host list, import the modified host list to the tool, and start the installation.

Installing a VRM Node

 Select the active/standby or single-node installation mode based on operation scenarios.

 The active/standby mode is recommended. If the VRM node works in standalone mode and is faulty, data
cannot be restored, and the system reliability is low.
 Set the VRM management scale based on the system deployment scale or customize the VRM management
scale based on the VM flavors. In the value, VM indicates the number of VMs, and PM indicates the
number of hosts.
 Select the host where the VRM node is to be installed and click Install VRM.

Initial Configuration Process
 During the project implementation period, you
can apply for a license for commissioning.
FusionCompute can provide services for a 90-da
y trial period without any license.
 When you configure a host, bind its ports in a
ctive/standby or load sharing mode and configu
re the switch as required.
 FusionSphere supports multiple storage types,
including IP SAN, FC SAN, NAS, FusionStorage,
and local disks. For details, see the product
documentation.
 IP SAN storage requires host storage ports. Mu
ltipathing is recommended rather than NIC bind
ing.
 The Network Time Protocol (NTP) clock source i
s mandatory. If domain names are configured, d
eploy a DNS.
 Management data backup supports FTP, FTPS, and
SCP protocols. FTPS is recommended. Data backe
d using SCP is saved to host, excluding the mo
nitoring data.

Configuring Hosts and Clusters

• Host and cluster configurations involve the following operations: create clusters, add hosts to them, and
adjust host or cluster configurations.

Copyright © 2019 Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. All rights reserved. Page 18
Creating a Cluster (Basic Attributes)

On FusionCompute, choose Resource Pools. The Resource Pools page is displayed.

Click Create Cluster. On the Create Cluster page, set Name and Description.
Determine whether to select the following options:
Configure HA: If you select this option, compute resources can be reserved for VMs in a cluster for HA to ensure that
sufficient compute resources are available in the cluster to start VMs when the host, data store, or VM is faulty.
Configure Resource Scheduling: If you select this option, compute resources in a cluster can be dynamically scheduled to
ensure proper resource allocation. This function is disabled by default and is enabled when required.
Configure IMC: allows the VMs running on the hosts in the cluster to present the same CPU features. This ensures successful
VM migration across these hosts even if the hosts use physical CPUs of different performance baselines. This function is
disabled by default and is enabled when required.

Adding a Host

Set the following parameters: Name, IP Address, Description, BMC IP Address, BMC Username, and
BMC Password.
Manually add hosts one by one or add hosts in batches using a template.
Manual Adding: Only one host can be added at a time. This method is easy to operate and is recommended
when a small number of hosts are to be added.
Adding hosts in batches based on a template: All information about the hosts can be set in a template and
imported at a time. This method is recommended when a large number of hosts are to be added.

Binding Network Ports

You are advised to bind network ports for the management plane and the service plane, respectively, to
enhance network reliability.

Copyright © 2019 Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. All rights reserved. Page 24
Adding a Storage Port

Add a storage port to a host for the host to communicate with storage devices. If you add multiple storage ports to the host, the
host data can be stored in multiple storage paths using the storage multipathing function.
A maximum of 16 storage ports can be added to each host. Storage ports are not required for the FC SAN storage and local hard
disks. The IP address of the storage port cannot be on the same network segment as that of the management plane.
Manually add a storage port or add storage ports in batches.
Set the following parameters: Name, Description, Subnet Mask, VLAN ID, Switch Mode, and the IP address.

Adding a Storage Resource to a Site

FusionCompute can use local storage resources of hosts or storage resources provided by dedicated storage
devices, including SAN, FusionStorage Block, and NAS.
Add the obtained storage resources to the system after FusionCompute is installed. If all hosts in the system
use the local storage resources or the FC SAN resources, skip this task.

Adding a Data Store

On FusionCompute, add a data store to the host to create a VM disk on the data store.
Multiple data stores can be added to a host, and one data store can be added to multiple hosts. A VM can be
migrated between two hosts only when the data store where the VM disk resides is added to both of the hosts.
The following storage types are supported: virtual local disks, virtual SAN, raw device mapping (RDM),
NAS, and FusionStorage Block.

Initial Network Configuration

Network management involves the following operations: create network resources, such as creating a distributed
virtual switch (DVS) or a port group. You can configure and adjust network resources.

Copyright © 2019 Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. All rights reserved. Page 33
Network Configuration – Creating a DVS

Each host connects to a DVS which functions as a physical switch. In the downstream direction, the DVS
connects to VMs through virtual ports. In the upstream direction, the DVS connects to physical Ethernet
adapters on hosts where VMs reside. Therefore, the host network can communicate with the VM network.

Network Configuration – Adding a
VLAN Pool

Add a VLAN pool as planned to provide the VLAN resources to create port groups.
When the connection mode is set to VLAN pool for port groups, users must manually configure IP
addresses of the VMs.

Copyright © 2019 Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. All rights reserved. Page 35
Network Configuration – Adding an Uplink

Add uplinks to the created DVS, providing network resources for VMs.
Uplinks are used as physical network ports of the server. Before adding uplinks, you can bind links to ports in
active/standby or load sharing mode.
The number of uplinks depends on the number of VMs running on the node. An uplink consists of three planes:
management plane, storage plane, and service plane.

Copyright © 2019 Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. All rights reserved. Page 36
Network Configuration – Creating a
Port Group
A port group is also considered
a mechanism for setting some
policies for managing the
network connected to the port
group. If VMs connect to the
port group of a DVS through
their NICs, these VMs are
working on the same network
even if they are carried on
different hosts.
VM NICs connected to the same
port group share the same
network attributes, such as
VLAN, QoS requirements, and
security attributes. This feature
improves the network security,
network segmentation,
availability, traffic management,
and performance of the system.

Note: If IP-MAC addresses binding is selected, you cannot change the IP address after the VM obtains the IP
address for the first time. Otherwise, the communication fails.

Configuring an NTP Server

 Setting the time synchronization interrupts services on the host temporarily becau
se the host service process must be restarted after the time synchronization funct
ion is configured. Therefore, exercise caution when performing this operation.
 You are advised to preferentially configure an external Network Time Protocol (NT
P) clock source. If no external NTP clock source exists, configure the clock sourc
e as that for VRM hosts or VRM nodes depending on VRM deployment mode.
 If the system time synchronization is not configured, you must manually configure
the time of each host, ensuring that the time difference between all hosts and VRM
nodes is within 1 minute. Otherwise, FusionCompute cannot monitor hosts with the t
ime difference greater than one minute.
 The time zone information set on FusionCompute determines the time information dis
played in the exported alarms. However, the time displayed on FusionCompute is sti
ll identical to the time set for the browser.

Configuring the MAC Address
Segment for VMs

 After FusionCompute is installed, configure available MAC address segments to assig

n a unique MAC address to each VM. If you use the default MAC address segment (28:6
E:D4:88:C6:29 to 28:6E:D4:8A:39:40), skip this task.
 FusionCompute provides 100,000 MAC addresses for users, ranging from 28:6E:D4:88:B
2:A1 to 28:6E:D4:8A:39:40. In this segment, MAC addresses from 28:6E:D4:88:B2:A1 to
28:6E:D4:88:C6:28 are reserved for VRM VMs.
 During the configuration, change the default MAC address segment to the customized
address segment or add a new address segment. A maximum of five MAC address segment
s can be configured, and the segments cannot overlap.
