WOMEN EMPOWERMENT IN
LADAKH
Women face discriminatio
-n when it comes to decisi
-on making and taking up
entrepreneurship. Yangch
-an Dolma, vice-presiden
-t, Women Alliance, says:
“Things are changing in
this small town — not for

the better, but for the worse. We are now working on dowry and
marriage-related problems in Leh — something never witnessed in
the history of Ladakh. The solution for the problem lies in empowe
-ring women. A woman will always have a say in decision-making
only if she is financially independent. We help women know there
potential by providing training for them in various skills like cook
-ing, weaving, knitting, etc. Such kind of skill-building workshops
also opens up the village women when they interact with others. So
we try to focus on skill development and entrepreneurship.”

ADMINISTRATION OF LADAKH

The
Administration of
Union Territory of
Ladakh is the
governing authority
of the Indian union
territory of Ladakh
and its two districts.
The Administration is led by a Lieutenant Governor
appointed by the President of India who acts on behalf
of the central Government of India. Ladakh does not
have an elected legislative assembly. The two districts of
Ladakh both elect their own autonomous district
council-the Leh Autonomous Hill development council
and the Kargil Autonomous Hill development Council,
which have competence over a range of domestic affairs.
