The natural history of a diabetic foot ulcer without medical


intervention usually progresses from ulcer to infected ulcer to deep
infected ulcer to osteomyelitis (bone infection) and ends in
amputation or death. 56% of ulcers become infected
and 1 in 5 of these will require some level of
amputation.

Additionally, it has been estimated that 15% of diabetic foot ulcers result in lower extremity amputations and 85% of
diabetic patients who undergo lower extremity amputations had an ulcer prior to amputation. In most developed countries,
the annual incidence of foot ulceration amongst people with diabetes is about 2%. In these countries,
diabetes is the most common cause of non-traumatic amputation; approximately 1% of people with diabetes suffer a
lower-limb amputation

Method
This study designed to evaluate the effects of Chitosan
and Zinc Oxide ointment on diabetic wound healing
process and as created of low cost topical dressing that
used on that type of wound.

Case report
Total of 150 diabetic wounds were studied since 2013.
Patient criteria’s were including (1) Chronic wound more
than 2 weeks; (2) patient aged among 35 – 55 years old;
(3) Wound large more than 5 centimeters; and (4) Blood
sugar controlled.

dressing. If it is sticking to your skin, wet it with warm water to loosen it

2 Assess the condition of the wound
