 Discuss the importance of movie as an art.

LEARNING OUTCOME
MOVIE

It is a form of art with the intention of

presenting a story through the recorded
scenes.

The artistic side of a movie relies on the

intention of the movie makers and on
how this intention is presented in the
recorded scenes.

DIFFERENCES AND SIMILARITIES

BETWEEN DRAMA AND MOVIES
 As argued by Gerald Mast (1986), “the
finished movie is not just a story, but a
story told in a certain way, and it is
impossible to separate what is told The art of movie comes in
from how it is told.” depending on how the camera
shapes the scenes so as to
produce beauty in the telling
of the story it wants to tell.

MOVIE
 Film making is very complex.
 Actors are artists, and to perfect their art they
need to practice to understand their role in
the story.
 It needs time to set up things.
 Film making is very expensive.
 Movies are related to culture by showing us
narratives, characters and predicaments that
we recognize. One character in a film may be
going through something that we have
experienced and may have to face the same
problems. Through a wider lens, the overall
plot of the story may resemble the culture we
know and its current issues from war, poverty,
the class divide, racism, environmental issues
and more.

WHAT IS THE ROLE OF CULTURE IN

MOVIES?
 Feminist critics and psychologists
discovered the place of women in the
American made movies.
 Women, according to critics, are treated
as the inferior kind.
 They belonged to the kitchen, or they are
meant to work the lesser tasks.

PSYCHOLOGY IN MOVIES
 Movies are art because they express and
expound beauty.
 As an art form, movies render possible a
visual depiction of ideas that hold the
potential for a great film. It involves
visualizing sets, characters or environments
that make up the design and overall look and
feel of a film. ... And often the appeal of
the film is tied to its story.

MOVIES AND THE PURPOSE OF ART

 Movies are related to culture by showing us narratives, characters and predicaments that we
recognize. One character in a film may be going through something that we have experienced and may
have to face the same problems. Through a wider lens, the overall plot of the story may resemble the
culture we know and its current issues from war, poverty, the class divide, racism, environmental
issues and more.
 Film is the most advanced form of art so far created by man. It not only involves visual images (which
is the classic term for what "art" actually meant). However, art now includes sound and movement
which film expresses at the highest possible level.
