Earth’s Natural
Resources

Author: Sakher Al-Adaileh

One day, Jason, a 5 year old boy, had a
dream of building his own home!
Jason went to his father and asked,
“Can you help me build my own house.”
The father laughed and replied, “But you
need many things such as wood”
Jason replied, “How much would this
wood cost me?”
The father replied, “Absolutely nothing!”
Jason was confused by his father’s
comments and asked, “How come?”.
“It is a natural resource after all”, the
father replied.
Jason asked, “What do you mean by
natural resource?”
And the lesson starts….
We live on planet Earth.

This planet has taken care of us by

providing us with natural resources!
As human beings, we need natural
resources to live and grow up.

We use these resources for food,

clothes, energy, building homes,
growing plants and so much more.
What are natural resources?
The first type is Renewable.
There are some renewable natural
resources such as:
1) Animals
2) Plants
3) Sunlight
Animals:-
We rely on animals for multiple things
such as,
1) Food
2) Milk
3) Clothes
4) Medicine
Jason interrupted his dad and asked,
“Daddy, are dogs animals?”
The dad nodded in agreement.
“But they do not give us any food or
milk”, said Jason
‘Ha ha ha’ laughed the father and then
replied, “But they are fun!!”
Plants:-
Plants provide us with the Oxygen* we
breath.
Plants also provide us with food like
corn and broccoli.
Sunlight:-
The light we get from the sun helps us
in many ways,
1) Helps the plants grow
2) Provides us with heat
3) Gives us light during day time
The second type is Non-Renewable.
These resources might run out ☹.
Examples:
1) Minerals
2) Fossil Fuels
3) Soil
Minerals:-
We use minerals in building our homes,
our cars, and even for decoration.
Minerals:-
These include stone, diamond, gold,
iron, silver, wood, and so many more!
Fossil Fuels:-
We use fossil fuels in a variety of
applications such as:
1) Making petrol for cars
2) Making plastic
3) For lighting fires
Fossil Fuels:-
The dad also explained that fossil fuels
are actually the remains of plants and
animals that were buried under ground
for millions of years.
Soil :-
It is a very important resource.
The soil we have is used to plant trees.
We also grow plants that animals can
eat.
It is our responsibility to care for planet
Earth and not waste these natural
resources.

The future kids will still need them!

How to conserve resources:-

1- Do not throw away your food and

finish your plate ☺
2- Do not keep the water tap open or
waste water.
How to conserve resources:-

3- Take care of the forests

4- Do not throw garbage in the water
5- Do what your parents tell you :D
“Did you enjoy your lesson?, asked the
father.
Jason replied, “Absolutely ! ☺”.
Jason had learned all about natural
resources and he went to bed dreaming
of telling his friends all about what he
learned.
