SIGNS & SYMPTOMS

BY THE CHARACTER
According to the film, we can see that
Andrew has schizophrenia disorder. The
psychological problems that show
Andrew suffered from schizophrenia
which is dominant characterized by
positive symptoms, delusion and
hallucination.
Delusions in the case of Andrew can be
seen gradually, that he suffered delusions
of grandeur and then he got into
delusions of persecution.
• Delusion of Grandiose - This delusion is the conviction of having
some great talent or insight or having made
some important discovery as well as being
successful and important person.

- Delusions of Grandiose here displayed by


Andrew Laeddis when he thinks he is a US
Marshall who is investigating the
disappearance of a patient in Ashecliffe. In
fact, he is actually one of the patients of the
hospital.

- In Andrew’s fantasy world, he is Teddy


Daniels, a U.S Marshall and is assigned to
investigate a case in Ashecliffe Asylum
while there are still some similarities with
his real life that he was a veteran of World
War II.
2. Delusions of Persecutory

-This subtype of delusions involves


a belief that you are being
conspired against, cheated, spied
on, followed, poisoned or harassed.

-In this film, this delusion happens


to Andrew which he always
suspicious of all things and be in
fear because he feels he is being
cared for, followed and monitored.
He belief that certain individuals or
groups are being threathened and
he thinks there is a suspicious
activity in Ashecliffe.
3. Hallucinations

- Hallucination are false perceptions or


assume something is real when in fact it is
only a fantasy.

- Andrew also experience visual


hallucinations and auditory as well. He
thought he met with people who actually
do not exist, namely Dolores Chanal,
childrens, and Dr. Rachel Solando
(Ashecliffe patients who he thinks is lost).
He also thinks he comes with a partner to
investigate which is Chuck, his assistant.
- Andrew also experienced
hallucinations in the form of
appearance of his wife and child who
had died so he is very difficult to get
back to the real world.

- The objects of his hallucinations are


his wife, his child, Rachel Solando
and also his friend Chuck but actually
in reality, Andrew speaks by himself
and no one speaks with him except the
doctors, his primary psychiatry, nurse
and guards.
