RESEARCH OBJECTIVES
• To seek similar characteristics between millennial leadership
towards a certain leadership style
• To define the existence of a connection between millennial
leadership towards the quality of work environment
• To seek whether placing a millennial leader brings a positive
improvements to the work environment of travel and tourism
industry

ORIGIN OF
FRAMEWORK
Quality of Work Environment:
• Work environment is divided into three pieces that
cooperates within the same time (Foldspang, et al., 2014)
• It is divided into three aspects, physical, psychological, and
social (Agbozo, Owusu, Hoedoafia, & Atakorah, 2017)
Millennial Leadership:
• In order to effectively analyze a leader, it must be analyzed
from belief systems, cultural and social development,
background assumptions, personal desires, and specific
needs (Lowder, 2007)
• With the awake of multigenerational workforce, there is a
demand to know how millennials will be able to interact with
different ages and with the environment (Fore, 2012)
• Leaders are best accommodated from their traits; and the
failure of trait theory led researchers to focus on behavior of
leaders; and later the modest success creates a complex
pattern by the contingency of the situation (Aalateg, 2017)

focuses more on the personal level of the leader. The
main goal of the theory is to define what incremental
traits shown by what kind of a person to perform an
effective leadership (Germain, 2012; Deshwal & Ali, 2020)
BEHAVIORAL
argues that leaders are not born, yet they can be studied,
trained, and formed through systematical development
programs. Different behavior of leaders will create
different styles of leadership. (Goff, 2003; Michel, Tews, &
Tracey, 2020)
CONTINGENCY
States that there is not a definitive style that can be
applied by a leader; however, it is based on the situation
and the workplace they are being. The characteristics of
the surrounding elements are what make the leader
effective. (Deshwal & Ali, 2020)

1. Is there a tendency of the millennial leadership
towards a certain leadership style?
• Millennial leaders possess emotional intelligence, care
towards their peers, good communication skills, and open-
mindedness
• The characteristics does not differ when they are working as
employees and as leaders and they are not all job-hoppers
• They are in line with caring leadership, shared leadership,
authentic leadership, and transformational leadership
• Due to the unanimous answer that the leadership style is
based on the leader’s personality, contingency leadership is

2. Is there any connection between millennial
leadership to quality of work environment?
• Millennial leaders influence the work environment by their
performance, behaving well to spark employee loyalty, supporting
subordinates to generate motivation, and providing a work space
and system that increase creativity
• Millennial leaders can give a positive effect by communicating well
with the team members, motivating to be better so the employees
will feel comfortable and be loyal, and let the employees create their
own work to appreciate their skill and knowledge
• Millennial leaders can also worsen the quality of work environment
by conducting office conflict that results in employee turnover, being
the cause of passive work communication, and the problem of
physical and mental abuse in work

• The millennial leaders are a high-demand employee in today’s
world
• Benefit of them in the managerial positions are that they
bring fresh ideas, they are updated with modern world, and
they are bring their unique characteristics that can improve
the work of subordinates
• The challenge for the business is to be willing to let these
millennials gain leadership experience by doing, though it can
lead to few mistakes from their light experience. The key is to
make a training program that can form the next generation of
leaders in line with the company culture and vision
