DETAILS ABOUT THE EXPLORER AND HIS
EXPLORATION
 Thomas Alva Edison was born on February, 11 1847 in Milan,
Ohio.
 He was the seventh and the last child of Samuel and Nancy
Edison.
 He was married twice and had six children as his successors.
His first invention was an “Electric Vote Recorder” which was
a failure.
 His second invention was “Universal Stock Printer“ which
was a success. He also invented devices that improved the
speed of telegraph and “ Tin Foil Phonograph “.
His first successful invention was “Electric Light Bulb” in
September 1882.

This is the first Light Bulb Thomas Alva Edison made. It
is called the Incandescent Light Bulb.

An Incandescent light bulb makes light by heating a metal
filament wire to a high temperature until it glows.
MOTIVATIONS FOR HIS EXPLORATION
 Thomas Alva Edison got motivated to invent light
bulbs because in olden 1800’s people used candles gas
and oil lamps to light their homes.
These lamps left soot all over the walls and caused
accidents like house fires.
 So, he wanted to invent a light bulb which was safe
and economical and will be the “Light Of The Future”
He developed ear problems leading to deafness which
motivated him to read books which helped him in
many of his inventions.
MOTIVATIONS FOR HIS EXPLORATION

He was motivated to give this dark

world which had no light except the
sun.
His experiences when he was studying using candles
and oil lamps was so frightful and was full of
accidents.
The three things that motivated Edison are following
a dream, learning from failures, hard work, never lose
patience and managing time.
EFFECTS OF HIS EXPLORATION
The development of telegraph was the first in the
communication.
Edison took pride in the fact that he was a practical
inventor, rather than a theoretical scientist.
Newspapers called Edison “Wizard of Menlo Park”
because of his amazing inventions.
Edison’s inventions made life easier for everybody so,
now people are able to be more productive by using
the light bulb and are able to communicate quicker
with the Phonograph.
EFFECTS OF HIS EXPLORATION
With his inventions, Edison and the inventors who
followed him changed the world. Some people think
that:
1)Travel by night became easier and much safer.
2)Electric light showed us a whole new side to our streets and
towns.
Due to Edison’s work people were able to invent; Flashlight
which is very useful when you are somewhere and there is
no electricity. The microwave oven, heat lamps, headlights
and traffic lights could only be invented because of Edison's
work with the light bulb.
DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVES

Francis. R. Upton, an engineering did not

think that Thomas could invent electric light which could
burn for a long time. Some people thought Edison was crazy
while some people thought that he was a clever inventor.
I think that the lamps which had fire in it made many
problems in houses and it affected people’s well beings, it
affected nature because many houses got burnt, this
affected the society and the economy due to the house fires.
DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVES

“We would all have no light (except the sun) and it

would be a very dark world if we did not have any light.’’
Thomas Edison was a very successful inventor, scientist,
and businessman whose inventions significantly
impacted the world.
HONOUR GIVEN TO EDISON AFTER HIS
DEATH
Edison’s final breath was concealed
inside a test tube which can be found
at the Henry Ford Museum.

On the day of his funeral the torch of Statue Of

Liberty was extinguished as a mark of respect.

The man who took over sound and set out to produce
Electric Lightning available to every household.
FAMOUS QUOTES OF THOMAS ALVA EDISON
“Genius is one percent inspiration and ninety-
nine percent perspiration.”
“ There is no substitute for hard work ”
“Anything that won't sell, I don't want to
invent. Its sale is proof of utility, and utility is
success.”
“I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways
that won't work.”
“I never did a day's work in my life. It was all
fun.”
