ITALIAN RENAISSANCE

ARCHITECTURE AND SCULPTURE

CLARA MARTÍNEZ CEBRIÁN 3ºB

DOME OF FLORENCE (xIII and xiv)

 Date of construction: The 9th of September of 1296.

 The architects: Filippo Brunelleschi, Francesco Talenti,
Arnolfo di Cambio and Bernardo Rosellino.
 The main architectural features: Gothic, Neo-Gothic and
Romanesque style; 114.5 metres; the dome has a pointed
shape and is formed by eight faces covered with red clay tile
and bordered by eight white stone ribs.
 My own evaluation: I consider it is a construction where the
splendor of the Italian Renaissance is reflected and gives a
sense of beauty, wealth and prosperity.
THE GATES OF PARADISE (XV)

 Date of construction: 1425-1452.

 The architect: Lorenzo Ghiberti.
 The main architectural features: This sculpture follows the process of
lost wax during 20 years; stage of the Quatrocentto; 5.20 metres of
lenght and 3.21 metres of widht.
 I choose this sculpture mainly because I find the title quite
interesting, it´s like behind this doors you can find an other world.
Furthermore, the brightness of the sculpture stands out above any
other.
 I was surprised that this artistic representation has so much history
behind it, because it represents themes of the Old Testament, such as
the Creation.
