What is the difference between reflection and
refraction?

Reflection of Light;the act of reflecting

Refraction of Light is Bending of Light
Refraction is the bending of light when it
passes from one medium to another.

The index of refraction (n) of a medium is

defined as ratio of the speed of light (c) 3x10^8
m/s in a vacuum to the speed of light (v) in
another medium. This is given by the following
equation:
n= c
v
Index of Refraction of Transparent Media
MEDIUM INDEX OF REFRACTION
Air 1.0003
Water 1.33
Crown Glass 1.52
Pyrex Glass 1.474
Diamond 2.4
Angel of Incidence- the angle which an
incident line or ray makes with a perpendicular to
the surface at the point of incidence.

Angle of Refraction- the angle between a

refracted ray and the normal drawn at the point of
incidence to the interface at which refraction
occurs.
Snell's Law of Refraction
This relationship between the angles of
incidence and refraction and the indices of
refraction of the two media is known as Snell's
Law. MEDIUM INDEX OF REFRACTION

What is Lens ?
Lens
- A Transparent or
transluscent optical instrument
that uses the refraction of light
inorder to form and enhance
the clarity of an image
Converging Lens- The lens in which light rays
that enter it parallel to its axis cross one another
at a single point on the opposite side with a
converging effect is called converging lens.
Diverging Lens- A lens placed in the path of a
beam of parallel rays can be called a diverging
lens when it causes the rays to diverge after
refraction. It is thinner at its center than its edges
and always produces a virtual image.
